Please note: This event is not hosted by Solway Coast NL and is organised by ‘Fix the Firth’ with John Gorrill.
Come and help a group of volunteers protect the lovely Solway Coast. All equipment provided.
Wellies and waterproofs advisable. Children welcome with responsible adults. Dogs OK.
Covid-19: Voluntary service which cannot be performed at home is a ‘reasonable excuse’ for leaving home. We always work 2+ metres apart entirely outdoors.
Past events: from 7/8/17 to 11/5/21 our 217 beach cleans have collected 4413 bags of rubbish + tyres, fish crates, plastic barrels, carpets & metal mesh too big for bags.
Salt on the Solway webinar poster
The Solway Coast National Landscape and the Solway Firth Partnership are presenting a series of webinars that focus on cross border topics such as salt, military history and farmsteads. The first talk of the series is ‘Salt on the Solway’ which focuses on the Solway’s salt making heritage.
Our speakers Andrew Fielding and John Pickin will summarise our current understanding of historic salt making on both sides of the Solway, how was salt made, where was it made and who made it.
