The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a fascinating mix of diverse habitats.
It is dominated by the sea, as you would expect, which has an impact on everything around it, from the dunes and the mudflats to the saltmarsh and the marine life itself.
Inland, it’s all about the mosses, mires and marshes, then on to the agricultural environment – the fields where crops grow and animals graze for the farming industry.
All of these have an impact on the flora and fauna of the Solway Coast – some of them with man’s involvement, others which are relics of environmental changes dating back thousands of years.
This is a place to explore and protect.
