August is the best time to see Cumbria's peatbogs at their most stunning and the Festival will provide a rare opportunity for people to join the experts to explore the fabulous wealth of wildlife to be found in this extraordinary and beautiful place - and it's all free!
The Solway Mosses are rare survivors of a wild and spectacular wetland landscape. Over many thousands of years, the remains of plants have been slowly building up to form domes of thick peat. The resulting patchwork of waterlogged land and open pools has encouraged a unique and important wildlife community to form and flourish.
The South Solway Mosses include four distinct areas of peatland at Bowness Common, Glasson Moss, Wedholme Flow and, Drumburgh Moss. These precious wetlands (also called peatbogs, mires or mosses) provide a home to scores of rare species, some not found anywhere else.
Come along and celebrate Cumbria's unique peat bogs at one of the FREE events.
