New Draft Management Plan for the Solway Coast is out for public consultation

Over the past year a range of partners including Natural England, Environment Agency, Cumbria County Council, Carlisle City Council and Allerdale Borough Council have been reviewing and re-writing the old Management Plan for the area which expires in April 2009.
A number of potential new issues have been identified including, renewable energy developments such as wind and tidal power. The response to these pressures has been the development of new objectives and policies to provide more appropriate protection for the area. Other subject matter include, natural and cultural heritage, tourism, environment, coastal issues, education, tranquillity and a range of other issues.
Copies of the draft plan, delivery plan (both pdf) and a proforma for comments (MS Word) are available for download (below) for perusal and comments. Copies are also available at the Solway Coast Discovery Centre in Silloth, The Civic Centre in Carlisle and at Workington Town Hall.
Three public meetings will also be held where the public can ask questions and get more involved in the process, they are:
- Solway Coast Discovery Centre, Silloth
- Monday 23rd March from 4.00pm to 7.00pm
- Allonby Village Hall
- Tuesday 24th March from 4.00pm to 7.00pm
- Burgh by Sands Village Hall
- Wednesday 25th 4.00pm to 7.00pm
The consultation period will last for six weeks ending on March 31st.
